Aiken players bring home medals from Virginia

Mid-Atlantic Open Pickleball Tournament

Arlington, VA

Several Aiken Pickledillys participated in the first Mid-Atlantic Open Pickleball Tournament held at the TJ Community Center in Arlington, VA on October 1st and 2nd.  There were 275 players from 19 states, and play was held on 17 courts.

Those players who made the trip to the DC area are Josh Booth, Jordan Goetzman, Tony Quick and Loretta Beckner.

Josh and Jordan competed fiercely through 5 matches in the 4.5/5.0: 19+, 35+ MD bracket.  It was not in vain as they earned a silver medal in their 35+ age group!  Well done, guys!

On Saturday, Tony paired up with Cliff Young to compete in the 4.0: 60+, 70+ MD bracket.  They had a 1-2 record in the bracket. On Sunday, Tony partnered Janet Green from Farmville, VA, in the 4.0: 60+, 70+ MX bracket, and they had an amazing ride to the final before losing their first match.  Since both teams each had one loss, they then played a game to 15 to determine the gold medal winner...and Tony and Janet came out the victors!  Impressive since they had not played together before!

Loretta learned to play pickleball in the TJ Community Center while living in Falls Church, and she partnered Wendy Sparrow, who happened to be the friend who introduced her to the sport before moving to Aiken!  Wendy and Loretta played in the 4.0/4.5:  50+, 60+ WD bracket and ended up winning the silver medal in the bracket and the gold medal in their age division.  Great job, Loretta!

Our Aiken players made a great showing given the strong competition at the tournament.  Congratulations to all!
